Original oil painting on canvas

Ares: The God of War and Chaos. In this painting, I depict Ares as the embodiment of war itself—an unstoppable, relentless force that brings destruction and chaos throughout history. Unlike Athena, who represents strategic warfare and just conflict, Ares is the god of sheer battlelust, bloodshed, and unchecked aggression. He is the spirit of war in its rawest form, indifferent to the suffering it causes.
The background is littered with the remnants of destroyed civilizations, representing the long and bloody history of human conflict. From the fallen temples of Ancient Greece to the charred remains of modern warfare, Ares walks through the wreckage of empires, a reminder that war has shaped the course of humanity. These ruins are not tied to a single war but rather to the collective history of destruction—Troy, Rome, World War I, World War II, and every battle that left ruins in its wake.
Ares' golden spear reflects a distant explosion, alluding to nuclear war—the ultimate destructive force of the modern age. Just as ancient wars were fought with bronze and iron, modern wars threaten civilization with weapons of mass destruction. The reflection on the spear serves as a grim prophecy: as long as war exists, the methods of destruction will evolve, but the devastation remains the same.
Ares is not simply a warrior; he is war incarnate. He does not care for victory or defeat, only for the continuation of conflict. He advances towards us, steady and unfeeling, his crimson cloak flowing like rivers of blood spilling from history’s battlefields. His bare feet touch the earth, reminding us that war is primal, ingrained in human nature. He is not bound by morality—only by the endless hunger for battle.

The Golden Serpent (on his shield) was sacred to Ares, symbolizing not only his connection to brute force but also the deceptive, cunning nature of warfare. War is not always fought with honor—betrayal, trickery, and ruthless tactics have played key roles in battles throughout history. The serpent on his shield represents this dark aspect of war, the relentless cycle of destruction that repeats itself through deceit and ambition.

An eagle follows Ares as a harbinger of doom, a symbol of the unending nature of war. It watches over the battlefield, just as war itself is always present, lurking over civilizations.

This painting is my interpretation of Ares as a force beyond gods and men. He does not choose sides, he does not fight for justice—he simply IS.
